Day 6

Sweet Treats - We All Need Them

Do you miss any of your sweet junk food snacks? The good news is that you don't have to fight your sweet cravings anymore! There are plenty of snacks that will satisfy your sweet tooth without harming your health. Here are some deliciously tasty (and healthy) sweet snack options:

  • Keep a bag of Medjool dates (the really big dates) around for a super-sweet afternoon snack. Just two of those giant dates will take away the toughest sugar cravings.

  • Sweet vegetables like carrots, sweet potatoes, yams, onions, squash (all kinds) and beets have a deep, sweet flavor when cooked. They will make your sugar cravings go away.

  • In the summertime, drizzle honey or maple syrup over a fruit salad of grapes, mango, berries, or banana.

  • In the wintertime, bake pears or apples in the oven and top them with maple syrup and nuts.

  • Create a dried fruit mix - try pineapple, bananas, apricots, and cherries.

  • A Sweet Smoothie made of juice, ice, bananas, strawberries, and yogurt is a delicious summertime treat.

  • Freeze chocolate-covered bananas for a frosty summer snack.

  • Did you know that your sweet cravings are often just a sign of dehydration? The next time your sugar cravings hit, have a tall glass of sparkling water mixed with cranberry juice and a splash of lime. Add a spoonful of frozen blueberries and a teaspoon of honey to your glass of water. Or re-hydrate and get your sweet taste satisfied with a cup of cocoa spice tea with some honey.

  • A big bowl of brown rice seasoned with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, or pumpkin spice is a warm, hearty treat.
