Recently, I asked my lunch buddies what their one goal or desire in life is. Just one in five knew. Matt said that he wanted to live in the present moment and experience it fully. I asked if he thought he was succeeding. After a chuckle about not doing it perfectly, he said that, yes, it was an important part of his daily spiritual practice.
Napoleon Hill in his classic book, Think and Grow Rich, boldly declares that 90 percent of the people you might ask have no idea what their greatest desire is. I think many of us have several fuzzy desires but don’t clarify what is most important to us and keep it upper most in our minds throughout the day. Because of this fuzziness, we don’t reap the benefits from the focused energy and guidance that a clearly stated desire generates. Without a clear focus our daily choices become more haphazard and life can feel less rich and satisfying.
For me living a healthy, happy life . . . in this lifetime is my great desire. A parallel desire is to help others to do the same. So I’m asking you, as it relates to your health and happiness, what is your greatest desire? Write this desire in your planner, post it as a note on your refrigerator, or write it on a slip of paper on the dashboard of your car. Keep it uppermost in your mind (every day!) and you’ll begin to reap the benefits of that desire. Your heart’s desire will come to you.
