Help for Your Kids (and YOU)

Some kids learn early how to get along and stay out of trouble.  Some never learn.  A friend of mine who is a counselor and works at an alternative school shared the three skills they teach the kids where she works.

Three skills you have to have in order to stay out of trouble.  These represent a measure of maturity.

  1. Follow the rules you disagree with and be productive even when you don’t feel like it. (can you let the adult be in charge?)
  2. Have to be able to have an overwhelming emotion and not allow it to get you in trouble.
  3. Have to be OK even when others around you are not ok.  (you have to still be able to make a good decision)
